Skill's development

Due to the increasing need for specialized abilities, experts have acknowledged that many people might find it difficult to meet the requirements for these occupations. Vocational education is unquestionably essential in closing this gap and preparing people for fulfilling professions. WYCF has equipped and trained 356 young people on various skills of their choice since 2017 to 2024. Among them we have male 49 and 307 female. With 153 young people who have graduated after fulfill at least two years of profession training, among them are 12male and 140 female.

Wegdam Vocational Institute and Technology - Freetown

For the socio-economic development of any society, women empowerment in the informal sector is equally essential.

Women empowerment means giving them freedom to willingly identify their skills, knowledge, abilities and make respected decisions in their societies. Our Building resilient communities through women empowerment program gives a sense of internal strength to women and teenage mothers to enhance meaningful lives and hope restoration.

We help women to access the work market through skill training, vocational courses and referrals to job opportunities through a network of partners in the private sector. The confident smile on the faces of women is the measurement of their empowerment. The centre help train students in the designing and production of dignify reusable sanitary pads to help address menstrual issue.

Wegdam Vocational Institute and Technology – Kamakwie

The Wegdam Vocational Institute Kamakwie is a branch of the Wegdam Vocational Institute and Technology which headquater in based in Freetown. The skill training centre provides a second chance for teenage mothers, adolescent girls and other young people who dropped out of school or never have the chance to go to school.

This is a programme created not only to empower the women with numeracy and literacy skills but also empower them with the practical skills that will help them become employable and entrepreneurs. They will be able to train other apprentices at community level and secure contracts in their respect field of study ie catering and food preservation, tailoring and dressmaking, local weaving. The women, girls and young boys in the tailoring and dressmaking skills will be trained to produce locally made safe reusable sanitary pads to address menstruation.

Computer training

Our computer training programs cover a range of topics, including basic computer literacy, digital marketing, and programming languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

WYCF work with partners to provide young people with the capacity on digital and innovation, skill development on digital, soft skills, employment skills such as CVs, cover letters and Entrepreneurship.
