Ramatu lives with her father in the George Brook slum community.

14 years old Ramatu lives with her father in the George Brook slum community. The mother and father are separated and no more together. The father is the only guardian and provider for his daughter education and general wellbeing. Ramatu’s father is local builder who is not educated and therefore is unable to secure a contract directly to earn more money from customers. Rather, He worked as a sub-contractor under the supervision of a certified build and construction engineer. It turned out very difficult for the father since he separated with Ramatu’s mother to be able to meet to the family needs. The mother was the backbone of the family at the time of their staying together. ‘Since my daughter’s mother and I separated, it has been very difficult for me in terms of providing for my daughter and even myself, I hardly get contracts and even when I managed to get one the money is not enough to take care of my daughter and younger brother who still lives with their mother. ‘Had it not been for the timely intervention of this project, my daughter Ramatu would have become a dropout at a very early age. Also, I appreciate the work of the aunties (Social Workers he meant) who spend their time every week to engage my daughter and other girls to focus on her education and not on boyfriend and girlfriend relationships at this young age. They serve as her fiend as I have no wife or sister who talks closely with Ramatu. This to a very large extent has helped in shaping the life of my daughter for the better. The extra-class has helped in building my child slowly as Ramatu before now was very weak in terms of her education because I had no time to study her not pay for her extra-lessons after school as I am always out there working for our living. The only fear I have as a father is when the support is going to stop, how will I cater to provide for my daughter’s education and make sure she reaches her goal? Said Ramatu’s father as he fought holding his tears. Ramatu who has promoted to JSS3 will be taking her BECE to transition to Senior Secondary School level in 2023.
