Girls to Women Reusable Pad

Girls to Women Reusable Pad

October 2017 - Ongoing

In Sierra Leone, menstruation is believed to be a female-only issue and is therefore not openly discussed. Religious and traditional beliefs and practices also contribute to the perpetuation of a sense of taboo around the topic.

At We Yone Child Foundation (WYCF), we believe that every menstruating girl and woman has the right to access accurate information, safe and affordable menstrual products, and a supportive environment. Our commitment goes beyond education; we provide daily cleaned, gender-segregated bathrooms where girls can wash, clean themselves, and change their menstrual hygiene pads comfortably.

The Challenges

1. Marginalization and stigma due to leaks, stains, and odors. 2. Unaffordable absorbent materials, forcing girls to use unsafe alternatives. 3. Health risks such as discomfort, itching, irritation, and infections. 4. Absence of proper disposal systems for menstrual waste. 5. Increased school absences, reduced class participation, and underperformance. 6. Social withdrawal and diminished self-esteem among girls. 7. Lack of knowledge and understanding about menstruation.

DONATE

Our work is making a difference, but there is still a long way to go. Many girls in Sierra Leone continue to miss school due to inadequate menstrual health support. With your help, we can expand our reach, produce more reusable pads, and provide safe, hygienic environments for schoolgirls.

$10 can provide a girl with reusable menstrual pads for a year.

$50 can train a woman in pad-making, equipping her with skills for economic independence.

$100 can help set up a school bathroom with proper hygiene facilities.

Every donation, no matter the size, helps keep girls in school, restore dignity, and empower women. Join us in breaking the silence and ensuring that no girl is left behind because of menstruation.
