Equal opportunity for Girls

December 2016 - Ongoing WYCF is delivering a project emphasising the importance of girls’ education called ‘Teenage Pregnancy Reduction Pilot Programme. Sierra Leone has among the highest teenage pregnancy rates in the world. According to 2016 UNFPA figures, 28% of girls ages 15-19 were pregnant or already had children. UNFPA reporting from 2013 suggests that almost 40% of women between the ages of 20 and 24 had given birth before age 18, and though exact pre-crisis numbers have been difficult to establish, evidence suggests that the teen pregnancy rate rose during the Ebola crisis.

Equal Opportunities for Girls

We Yone Child Foundation (WYCF) is delivering a critical project aimed at emphasizing the importance of girls’ education through the Teenage Pregnancy Reduction Pilot Programme. Sierra Leone has one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates in the world. According to 2016 UNFPA figures, 28% of girls aged 15-19 were pregnant or already had children. Reports from 2013 UNFPA data indicate that nearly 40% of women aged 20-24 had given birth before turning 18. The situation worsened during the Ebola crisis, with evidence suggesting a surge in teen pregnancies due to school closures, economic hardships, and increased vulnerabilities.

WYCF’s initiative works to address this crisis through:

✅ Education & Awareness – Providing young girls with essential knowledge on reproductive health, rights, and the impact of early pregnancies.

✅ Mentorship & Support – Offering mentorship programs to encourage girls to remain in school and pursue their aspirations.

✅ Community Engagement – Partnering with parents, educators, and community leaders to challenge social norms and advocate for girls’ rights.

Every girl deserves the chance to stay in school, avoid early pregnancy, and build a future full of opportunities. Your support can help us provide essential education, mentorship, and healthcare services to at-risk girls.

🌟 Donate today to empower a girl and change a life.Together, we can create a world where every girl has the chance to thrive. 🌟
